Namaz-e-Janaza of Allama Suhail Afandi in Hyderabad
Dr.Mazhar
Naqvi
Azadar
world suffered yet another setback with the death of Allama Suhail Afandi. He
left for his heavenly abode at Jafri hospital in Hyderabad last night and laid
to rest in presence of a handful of mourners. It was quite surprising in view
of the tremendous popularity he enjoyed as Zakir-e-Ahlebait (Orator) across the
globe, especially in Indian-sub-continent. The indifference of Hyderabadi Imamis
towards his funeral ironically indicate the growing tendency among the people to
salute someone so long as he is worth recognition and forget him once he fades
into oblivion due to ripe age or poor health. This is what exactly happened with
Allama Afandi that too in his own city. He was not an active Zakir for couple
of years in view of his ripe age but his son Maulana Asghar Afandi was carrying
on legacy of his illustrious father. Yet he did not get the kind of funeral he
deserved. The blogger could not find any written material on him from the web. In
certain websites his name figures but without any detail as to when was he
born, where he received his education and how he came to be known as ‘Khateeb
Muffassir Quran Aur Nahjul Balaghat’?
While
looking for material on his life and oration, the blogger miraculously found a
book titled ‘Intezar” in the library of prominent Zakira-Ahle-Bait Dr. Hena Zaheer.
Book’s cover page also carries a photograph of Allama but its preface also does
not throw much light on his personal life. The book contains ten religious
discourses delivered by Allama in Lucknow at Imambara Nazim Saheb Marhoom in
2000 AD. Dr. Ehtesham Haideri compiled the book and it was printed in 2002 AD by
Ahbab Publishers, Iqbal Manzil, Maqbara Aliya ,Golaganj, Lucknow. Allama Afandi
has dedicated the first five majalis to the topic ‘Quran Aur Insan-e-Kamil’. Then,
he delivered discourse on the topic “Maula-e-Kainaat Aur Masail-e-Ahlebait’ and
titled his last and 10th majlis as ‘Intezar’. In his first majlis, he
made it clear that his objective was to make the youths aware of the threats
being posed to Imamia faith. In his Majalis he not only elaborated successfully
what Quran expects from an individual and how Ahle-Bait-e-Athar serves as role
model for attaining human excellence and perfection. From the inputs received
from those who had the opportunity to attend his Majalis in Lucknow, Kanpur and
Moradabad, it was apparent that his oration always aimed at propagating the
message of Ahle-Bait and its preservation till the ‘Day of Judgment’. His
oration was flawless and presentation appealing. His voice was soothing to the
audience and selection of words appropriate. He never uttered mourners with
words like “May I have your attention” ,for he was confident of the contents of
his delivery.
He
was very humble and down to earth person. He avoided ornamentation and always
considered himself as a servant of Masoomeen. His death has caused a void that
will be hard to fill in an era marked by ‘commercialization’ of even Azadari.(
May Allah bless him with his chosen ones and offer ‘Sabre-Jameel’ to his bereaved
family. May Allah also give ‘Taufiqf’ to all Imamis to remember the propagators
of Karbala Revolution always.Ameen. The viewers would recall that great Zakir Sarkar
Mehdi Sahib had also died recently).
